Jio Launches Voice SMS-Only Prepaid Plans

India’s leading telecom provider, Reliance Jio, has rolled out new prepaid plans focused solely on Voice and SMS, following the guidelines set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This move seems to signal a tariff adjustment, suggesting that prices for plans may not decrease in the near future. The introduction of these plans aligns with TRAI’s recent instruction for telecom companies to offer distinct Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) for voice and SMS services, enabling customers to pay exclusively for what they use. The initiative aims to cater to specific consumer groups, especially the elderly and residents of rural areas. Here are the latest prepaid offerings from Jio:

Jio New Voice-Only Plans Rs 458

The basic Voice and SMS-only plan from Jio is now available for Rs 458. This package offers unlimited voice calls and 1,000 SMS, all valid for 84 days. Subscribers also gain access to Jio Apps, including JioTV, JioCinema (non-premium), and JioCloud. It seems Jio may have bundled these app features with the expectation that users will utilize them over Wi-Fi or with data packs.

This plan falls under Jio’s ‘Value’ category. Previously, it was priced at Rs 479 and included unlimited voice calls, 6GB of data (with unlimited data at 64 Kbps after the limit), and 1,000 SMS for the same 84-day period. The revised plan is now Rs 21 less expensive but eliminates the data allowance while keeping the voice, SMS, and app subscription perks intact.

Jio New Voice-Only Plans Rs 1,958

The annual Voice and SMS-only plan from Jio is now available for Rs 1,958. This plan provides a full year of validity, unlimited voice calls, and 3,600 SMS messages. Additionally, subscribers can enjoy perks like access to Jio Apps, including JioTV, JioCinema (non-premium), and JioCloud. Jio classifies this offering as part of its ‘Value’ range.

Previously, the plan was priced at Rs 1,899, offering 336 days of validity, unlimited voice calls, 3,600 SMS, 6GB of data, and unlimited data at 64 Kbps once the high-speed limit was reached. With the new pricing, Jio has raised the cost by Rs 59, eliminated the data feature, and extended the validity by 29 days, while keeping the voice, SMS, and app benefits intact.

Jio telecom has made some changes to its ‘Value’ plan offerings. Previously, there were three plans available, but now only two remain that do not include data benefits. The third plan, which was priced at Rs 189 and provided unlimited voice calls, 300 SMS, and 2GB of data, has been removed. For those who require extra data alongside these Voice and SMS-only options, Jio subscribers can still purchase data packs. This is the latest information available, and we will keep you posted on any further modifications to Jio’s plans.
